Definitely influenced by grandparents & parents. And never thought about it before until I read other comments- use some of my grandparents old tools too. I would never want to replace them.
Anna SO GOOD ❤️ My grandparents gardened so much when I was little: it’s only recently I’ve realised that shared connection. I have my grandma’s fork and spade - a good solid set for shorter types which she’d invested in as a more diminutive gardener, buying the right tools - and when I took them from their house after they’d both passed away, I wasn’t really thinking about their significance, it was just that I needed tools 😂 - but now I’m so, so grateful for that shared touch point every time I dig. She loved roses, especially big blousy scented ones, and so do I ❤️
"it was just that I needed tools"! Brilliant I am so glad you have got lots of blousy roses. I am sure you are pleased to thought this when you rifled through the shed. I have a spade, that my brother bought me over 24 years ago! It is perfectly shaped now, light and almost an extension of my arm. We are all connected when grow something in the ground, currents through the earth, maybe back to our loved ones too. Beautiful.
If you’re lucky enough to have parents or grandparents who love to garden I think it’s in your soul before you even realise. It’s just something that has to be. Roses…dahlias… I found, as a little girl, and still the same now, that a tiny posy of wild flowers was as precious as anything.
Do you think it is a learnt love and appreciation or 'nature'? Certainly one of my children has been pulling me aside to spot snowdrops and aconites on walks. They are little treasures.

Let’s say it’s both! Nature and nurture 🌿
Absolutely lovely. x
Thank you Alex. Looking forward to the next cookbook instalment later!
