I’ve been selling flowers since 2015.
I’ve sold at Markets, contract grown with another grower and sold wholesale, supplied commercial weekly arrangements, buckets, subscriptions, posted and delivered.
I’ve honed exactly what I sell and to who over the years; and made a lot of mistakes.
But those mistakes were essential.
I needed to trial all of those routes because I couldn’t find anyone out there to help me discern otherwise.
What we think we want to do is often different from what our skills, talents and resources are going to make the most profit from. Or in some cases, any profit.
If you want to orientate your ‘expensive hobby’ to a profitable income, would like some insight in how to do so.
You might already be selling and thinking about other revenue streams.
Or want to change how and to whom you sell your flowers too.
How to change your prices.
And how to get paid.
The next ‘Floral Chat’ is on just this, Tuesday 23rd April at 10.30am online via zoom live.
I am sure it will be an inspiring, encouraging and exhilarating chat at the beginning of our flowering seasons. A chance to have a final review of our plans and pricing before we all get very very busy.
When: Tuesday 23rd April at 10.30am
Where: Live on Zoom Online
How: If you are a paid subscriber, you get first dibs - hit reply and secure your spot. Send me a question whilst you are at it! Tell me what might help you.
It will be live and direct. No recordings, everything stays in the (virtual) room. I’m keeping this intimate for candid conversation.
I’ll be sharing my selling tips and importantly, helping you not to make the same mistakes I did shortcutting a good few years!
Please do join me!
You’re correct: “What we think we want to do is often different from what our skills, talents and resources…”. There’s a 6-acre, wholesale flower farm operation near my home. There’s also a florist shop selling standard FTD styles by order. My total property is 1 acre with 1/4acre flowers. When I started growing rows of annuals, I thought I would be able to subsist on market bouquets but it has turned into 1 piece of my 2nd-year plan. My strength is art and design so I’ve pivoted toward advertising the uniqueness and artistry of my custom floral work. I’ve had some success with Facebook ads and also hit plenty of dead ends with hotels and individuals not valuing quality enough to pay for it (my prices are competitive). I’m still building a following in hopes of finding “my customers”. I will spend this year growing unusual flower varieties, building fantastic installations for style shoots and just telling everyone I’m a floral designer with a micro-flower farm. My best offers to date are workshops/art class and prom corsages. June, I’m hosting a private Art of Bloom event for my art league and in the fall, I plan to sell wreaths. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you. SpeckledHenFloral
I’m not sure that I will ever get to the point of selling flowers but if you have space I’d love to join the chat tomorrow… I would like to know more about when different flowers are ready to be cut in order to look their best for an ‘event’
