There are several key garden dates that dictate the growing year.

However, the calendar can only help so far, giving just a vague approximation of the event. Instead, we must become observers.

The first big frost is one of those events. And of course the last frost.

You might have already had your last frost. But that’s taking a chance. It could be early June. We can’t be sure until there is a significant absence and night time temperatures rise consistently.

Today I’m thinking about another milestone, and one I spotted just this week.
